A female headteacher of a government primary school in Bogura died following fall from a rickshaw during stanching bid near the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ranjina Parvin, headteacher of Bagbari Balika Government Primary School in Bogura.
Police said Ranjina had travelled to Dhaka from Bogura to see a doctor at Islamia Eye Hospital in Farmgate area.
She got off at Gabtoli Bus Terminal in the early morning and was travelling by rickshaw to the hospital around 6:30 am. When she reached near South Plaza of Sangsad Bhaban a motorcycle came from behind and its occupants pulled her bag.
She fell onto the road and sustained a severe head injury, said police.
She was rescued from the scene and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospita, where doctors declared her dead.
Family members of the deceased declined to speak about the incident.
Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Ibn-e-Mizan said police are working to identify the motorcycle and those involved in the snatching.
“Counter Terrorism, DB and other agencies are also working. We hope to identify and arrest them very soon,” he said.
