He breathed his last around 1:15pm at United Hospital, said his press secretary Munir Ahmed.
Kasemi, also secretary general of Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam, was admitted to the hospital on December 1 with respiratory and cold-related problems, he said.

Munir said the Hefajat secretary general tested negative for the coronavirus.
He said Kasemi was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Thursday as his condition worsened.
Kasemi had worked as Dhaka city unit president of Hefajat-e-Islam since the establishment of the Quawmi madrasa-based platform.

He was elected secretary general of the organisation at its council held on November 15 last.
Kasemi was the founding director of Jamia Madania Madrasah in the capital’s Baridhara area.
