Joint forces comprising army personnel and police busted an illegal arms manufacturing factory at Dumain village in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur and arrested a man on Friday night.
The arrestee was identified as Badal Sarkar, 52, son of Nitai Sarkar of the same village.
Tipped off, a team from Madhukhali army camp in coordination with local police conducted the drive at Badal’s house where the illegal factory was being operated.
During the drive, the joint forces seized a single-barrel pipe gun, 12 cartridges, 14 recoil springs, two hammers, a drill machine and other equipment used for making firearms.
Fakir Taijur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Madhukhali Police Station, said a case has been filed against Badal under the Arms Act.
According to army sources, Badal Sarkar had long been involved in manufacturing illegal weapons at his own workshop and supplying them to criminals in different parts of Faridpur.
The sources said demand for such weapons has increased recently ahead of the national election.
Badal, who was wanted in several criminal cases, was later handed over to Madhukhali Police Station.
