A local leader of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), who sustained bullet injuries in a gun attack allegedly by a rival group in Palash upazila of Narsingdi, died at a hospital in Dhaka on Monday morning, nine days after the incident.
Ibrahim Al Masum, a former joint secretary of Danga union unit of JCD and son of Momin Haji of Hasanhata village, breathed his last around 9:00am.
On August 1, Masum sustained bullet injuries in the gun attack by his rival group in the Fakir Bari area of the upazila over establishing dominance, which also left nine other people injured.
Locals said Masum, Mamun, Zainal and several others were staying at a grocery shop in the area when members of the rival group, including Bijoy, Sabuj, Iqbal and Sani, swooped on them and opened fire on them, leaving Masum injured.
When others tried to save Masum, the attackers hit several people indiscriminately, leaving nine others, including Danga union unit Jubo Dal President Mamun Ahmed and General Secretary Zainal Abedin, injured.
The injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while Masum was shifted to a private hospital in Dhaka, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
Officer-in-Charge of Palash Police Station Shahed Al Mamun said Masum's brother-in-law Hasan Md Mohsin filed a case against 37 people on August 4 in connection with the incident.
“Police operations are underway to arrest those involved,” he said.
