Labor and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Sunday said the legitimacy of the current government is derived from the mass uprising.

He made this remark while talking to reporters after a coordination meeting on the review of the current labour situation at the Secretariat in the capital.

“The legitimacy of this government is the mass upsurge. The decision that has been taken is legal ratification and other issues,” said the adviser, replying to a question regarding a draft ordinance to give legitimacy to this interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus.

He said the legitimacy of this government has already been given in the article 106-A (Article 106 of the Constitution). There will be more legal ratification through the ordinance that is being talked about, said Asif Mahmud, also the youth and sports adviser.

When asked about the progress of reform works, he said the reform commissions were formed to abolish the fascist system. “You have seen the progress of our activities in the last three months. Our Chief Adviser (Prof Yunus) is sitting regularly with the reform commissions. Based on the reports (of the commissions), the reform activities will continue,” he said.

Based on the recommendations of the reform commissions, an outline has already been given to complete the reform process through discussions with stakeholders and political parties, he said.

The adviser said Awami League men, sitting outside the country, make posts on their official social media pages. Some posts were made on their social media pages on Saturday to instigate the workers, which also came to his notice, he said.

“You (journalists) should have a role in countering these things (instigating posts). We are working (in this regard),” said Asif Mahmud.

He said no one is convinced by the words (of Awami League). Otherwise, workers would have marched towards Dhaka at the call of Awami League.

“No one has come,” said the adviser.
