The authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia on Wednesday suspended three students following clashes between students of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Bangla departments.
The suspended students are Mehedi Hasan, Abdur Rouf and Mosabbir Hossen, according to a notification signed by IU Acting Registrar Professor Atiqur Rahman on Wednesday evening.
They have been barred from all academic activities until further notice, the notification said.
The university administration also formed a five-member committee, headed by Khaleda Zia Hall Provost Professor Aynul Haque Akanda, to investigate the incident.
The other members of the committee are Student Adviser Mamun Al-Rashid, Transport Section Director Sheikh Abdur Rouf and Assistant Proctor Jakir Hossain. EEE Department Deputy Registrar Salahuddin has been made its member secretary.
The clashes began on Tuesday when students of the two departments got into an altercation on a university bus in Kushtia, leaving a student injured.
Later, teachers and students from both departments held a meeting at the proctor's office to resolve the dispute.
However, according to university sources, Bangla department students allegedly attacked an ICT department teacher and students after the meeting.
ICT department teacher Professor Shariful Islam and student Abu Sayed were injured in the attack.
The university authorities said the probe committee would investigate the incident and recommend further action based on its findings.
