Chattogram, Apr 25(UNB) – Shahjalal Boli emerged as the champion of the 110th edition of popular wrestling competition ‘Jabbar er Boli Khela’ on Thursday.
The man from Cumilla defeated defending champion Taraqul Islam Jibon Boli from Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar. It took Shahjalal 28 minutes to beat Jibon at Laldighi Maidan.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Mahabubur Rahman, attending the competition as chief guest, awarded trophies and prize money to the champion and runner-up.
'Boli Khela’ was introduced in the early 20th century by Abdul Jabbar Saodagar. He wanted to cultivate a sport that would prepare youths to fight the British.
The traditional form of wrestling was named after Jabbar. The first competition was held in 1909.
