Four policemen of Pirgachha Police Station have been withdrawn and attached to the police lines over the death of a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader during a police operation to rescue a missing teenage girl in Savar.

Two separate committees have also been formed in Dhaka and Rangpur to investigate the incident, Selim Malik, Officer-in-Charge of

Those who withdrawn were identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Kanak Ranjan Barman, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Osman Ali, Constable Prashanta Kumar and Constable Sumi Akter.

They were withdrawn on Saturday night.

Monwarul Islam Bakshi, 30, vice-president of Savar thana Chhatra Dal, from South Hatibandha village of Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha district had been living in Savar with his family.

According to police and family sources, a 15-year-old girl from Monglakuti village of Pirgachha went missing on July 23.

Her father, Mintu Mia, lodged a general diary with Pirgachha Police Station.

Police later traced the girl's location to Savar using technological assistance.

On Thursday night, a nine-member team from Pirgachha Police Station, led by SI Kanak Ranjan Barman, went to the staff quarters of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) in Savar.

Police from Savar Police Station also took part in the operation.

According to police sources, during the operation, police personnel heard a sound of something falling from the roof of the building and went there.

They found Monwarul lying critically injured and took him to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

However, the victim's family alleged that Monwarul was pushed from the roof.

His brother Momdel Hossain claimed that Monwarul's nephew, Shahriar Kabir Soumik, was in a relationship with the teenage girl and that the two had married voluntarily and were living in Savar.

He claimed that the girl's father, Mintu Mia, and another person were there during the operation

Momdel said that an argument took place between Monwarul and the men on the rooftop and that he was subsequently pushed from the roof.

Following the incident, relatives brought Monwarul's body in an ambulance in front of Pirgachha Police Station on Saturday morning and staged a protest.

The situation later returned to normal following intervention by local political leaders.

Officer-in-Charge of Pirgachha Police Station Selim Malik said separate committees had been formed in Dhaka and Rangpur to investigate the incident.
