The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry on Monday recommended forming a national commission for trying those involved in the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 17 members of his family on August 15, 1975, presumably beyond those already convicted in the landmark case that was filed 21 years after the crime.
The committee came up with the recommendation at its 12th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Abdul Matin Khasru, in the chair, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.
The meeting also observed a minute’s silence on the occasion of the 45th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the passing of former minister Sahara Khatun and secretary to Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department Naren Das.
Law Minister Anisul Huq and Committee members Mostafizur Rahman, Shamsul Haque Tuku, Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, Shamim Haider and Gloria Jharna were present at the meeting.
