The deceased were identified as Abul Karim, 24, son of Jamir Ahmed; and Nesar Ahmed alias Nesar ‘Dacoit’, 29, son of Syed Hossain of Nayapara Rohingya camp.
Police conducted a drive at Jadimura Hill area around 2am acting on a tip-off, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.
Criminals fired at police at one stage, triggering a gunfight.
Karim and Nesar, injured in the skirmish, were arrested from the spot. They succumbed to their injuries while being taken to the Sadar Hospital, OC Das said.
Two guns and seven bullets were recovered from the spot.
Jubo League leader Faruk, 30, was shot dead at Jadimura on Aug 22. His family said he had been picked up by a group of Rohingyas and murdered.
Since then, five men, suspected of being involved in the murder, have been killed alleged crossfires.
Bangladesh is currently hosting more than 1.1 million Rohingyas who fled their homeland in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. Many Rohingyas have been accused of getting involved in criminal activities in and around the camp areas.
Apart from reported attacks on police and harassment of journalists, two other locals were also killed, allegedly by Rohingyas, since the 2017 influx.
