A lawyer from Jhenaidah who suffered severe burn injuries while performing Puja at her home earlier this month died on Saturday while undergoing treatment in Dhaka.
Advocate Mita Saha, a lawyer at the Jhenaidah District Judge Court, died at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday afternoon.
She was the wife of Shyamal Kumar Saha of KC College Para in Jhenaidah town.
Advocate Alauddin Azad said the incident occurred on the evening of May 7 while she was lighting Puja lamps at her house in Chaklapara. At one stage, a lamp containing oil accidentally fell on her body and caught fire, leaving her severely burned.
She was first taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital and later shifted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
After tributes were paid to her at the Madanmohan Temple premises in Jhenaidah town, her body was cremated at the Mahishakundu crematorium in Chaklapara around 8:30pm on Saturday.
Ekramul Alam, president of the Bar Association, said a full court reference for the deceased lawyer will be held at the courtroom of the Jhenaidah District and Sessions Judge Court at 11:30am on Sunday.
