“There’s a scope for the practice of tolerating the opinions of others through logics, which is indispensible for democracy,” she said while addressing the 8th session of the ‘Jubo Chaya Sangsad’ (Shadow Parliament of Youths) in the city.
The Speaker was addressing the function as the chief guest at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.
Dr Shirin called upon the youth to build the mindset for tolerating constructive criticisms.
She said this shadow parliament is playing a very good role in nourishing freethinking among the young generation.
The theme of the session of the youth parliament is ‘preventing food wastage, ensuring nutritious food and giving priority to empowerment of youths.’
About the theme, the Speaker said Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in food and it has been able to attain self-sufficiency in food due to timely measures taken by the present government.
Dr Shirin said the government has taken various steps to ensure nutritious food for people.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman opened the 8th session of the shadow parliament.
Aroma Dutta, MP and former Agriculture Secretary Anwar Faruk also spoke at the function presided over by executive director of Amar Foundation and also Secretary General of All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Shishir Sheel.
Country Director of Hunger Free World Bangladesh Ataur Rahman Miton delivered the welcome speech.
Like Members of Parliament (MPs) from 300 constituencies and 50 reserved seats in the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, some 350 students represented in the shadow parliament.
Over 40 organisations, including Hunger Free World, Youth Against Hunger, DanChurchAid arranged the shadow parliament.
