Six people were killed in lightning strikes in Naogaon, Barishal and Natore districts on Thursday.
According to reports reaching the UNB news desk, three people were killed in Naogaon, two in Barishal and one in Natore.
In Naogaon, three people, including two farmers, were killed in separate lightning strike incidents in Raninagar upazila on Thursday.
Two farmers were killed when lightning struck them while they were harvesting paddy amid rain at Jathail in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Akkas Fakir, 60, son of late Asad Fakir, and his relative Tarek Fakir, 24, son of Aminul Islam Fakir of Paroil village in Raninagar upazila.
Zakaria Mondal, Officer-in-Charge of Raninagar Police Station, said the two farmers died on the spot after being struck by lightning while working in a paddy field during rain.
Police later recovered the bodies and handed them over to the families, he said.
Meanwhile, Nayan Talukdar of Guata Atnitapra village was killed after being struck by lightning while bringing cattle back from a field amid rain around 11am, the OC added.
Raninagar Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Nazrul Islam said Tk 20,000 would be provided to each of the victims’ families through the local administration.
In Barishal, two workers at a betel leaf garden were killed and another injured after lightning struck them while they were working at a garden in Mahilarar Bhimer Par area of Gournadi upazila around 2pm, said Tarique Hasan Russel, Officer-in-Charge of Gournadi Model Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taleb Hawladar, son of Alim Hawladar, and Sukanto Bala, 38, son of Mukunda Bala of Uzirpur upazila in the district.
The injured person was taken to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex.
In Natore, a 60-year-old brick kiln worker was killed and another injured after lightning struck them while they were working at a brick field in the Sirajipur area of Lalpur upazila.
The deceased was identified as Esken Ali of the upazila.
Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Lalpur Police Station, said the two workers fell unconscious after being struck by lightning during a storm in the morning.
Later, they were taken to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Esken Ali dead.
