Members of the families of those were victims of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings - associated with the rights organisation Maayer Daak -- met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday after observing the proceedings of the national budget session at Parliament.
The meeting was held outside the chamber at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, said Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.
Earlier in the day, at the invitation of the Prime Minister, 26 members of Maayer Daak observed the proceedings of Parliament from the Bir Sreshtha Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rouf Gallery.
The session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the presence of Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman.
Later, the Prime Minister exchanged greetings with them outside the chamber, Rony said.
The Maayer Daak members expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for inviting them to witness the budget session and for taking time to meet them afterwards.
Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Whip Rakibul Islam, State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad, lawmakers Fazlul Haque Milon and Shamsur Rahman Simul Biswas, and Maayer Daak Convener and lawmaker Sanjida Islam Tulee, among others, were present during the meeting.
The proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 was placed in Parliament on June 11 under the slogan “Journey Towards a Democratic, Humane and Inclusive Economy.”
Maayer Daak is an organisation representing families of the victims of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings allegedly committed by state security and law enforcement agencies during the Awami League rule.
