A murder case has been filed against five people over the killing of a child, Atika Akter, 8, in Manikganj, and the main accused, Naim Hossain, has been arrested, police said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, Ikram Hossain, said the case was filed by the victim’s mother, Arifa Akter, after her daughter’s body was recovered from a cornfield in Bonparil village under Manikganj Sadar upazila on Thursday evening. After the incident came to light, two of the accused were killed and one seriously injured by angry locals.
The accused in the case are Naim Hossain, his elder brother Nazmul Hossain, who is in hospital with injuries inflicted by an angry mob after the incident came to light; their father Pannu Mia and his brother Fazlu Mia, who were both killed by the mob; and neighbour Rony Mia.

Superintendent of Police, Md Sarwar Alam, said Naim has been arrested following the filing of the case.
Among the other accused, Nazmul Hossain is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital but has been kept under police surveillance, while efforts are underway to arrest Rony Mia, he added.
The bodies of Pannu Mia and Fazlu Mia have been handed over to their families after autopsy, the SP said. No case has yet been filed by the families over the mob beating incident yet. Police said legal action will be taken if a complaint is filed, otherwise a case will be initiated by police.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the Bonparil area to maintain law and order.
