A tribunal in Faridpur on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life imprisonment for killing his wife over dowry in 2016.
Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Shamima Parvin handed down the punishment.
The convict is Naser Thakur, 30, son of Kohel Thakur of Gadadharadi village in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur district.
The tribunal also fined him Tk 50,000, in default to suffer, one more year in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Naser used to torture his wife, Shwapna Begum, 25, for dowry after their marriage.
On March 21, 2016, Naser beat his wife mercilessly and at one stage, strangled her to death over the issue.
A case was filed with Madhukhali Police Station in this regard. Later, police submitted a charge sheet against Naser in the case.
