Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with five gold bars worth Tk 1.21 crore from Dugdugi village in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district on Sunday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Bappi, 27, son of Abu Siddique of the Darshana area.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-6 took position at Colonypara in Dugdugi village around 4:30 pm and signaled a man to stop while he was passing through the area on a motorcycle, said Director of Chuadanga-6 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Hasan.
However, he ignored the order and attempted to flee. The BGB members chased him and arrested him.
Later, the border guards recovered five gold bars, weighing 600 grams each, after searching his body.
The market value of the seized gold bars is Tk 1,21,38,000.
The seized gold bars were deposited with the treasury officer in Chuadanga.
