A 60-year-old man was killed and 30 others injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Makramputi village in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Kuddus Molla of the village.
Quoting local people, Ashraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Police Station, said Dabir Matubbar and Bazlu Munshi of Makramputi village had been at loggerheads over establishing dominance in the area.
On Sunday night, the supporters of both groups engaged into a heated argument over the issue, triggering a clash that left 31 people injured.
A chase and counter-chase took place during the clash.
A number of houses were vandalised during the clash that continued for three hours.
The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared Kuddus dead.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Additional police were deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
