The Bangladesh Air Force on Monday honored Masuma Begum, support staff member at Milestone School, who tragically died in the recent Air Force training jet crash in Dhaka’s Uttara, by laying a wreath at her grave in Bhola.
A team led by Wing Commander ABM Sarwar Jahan, Deputy Commander of the Barisal Air Force Radar Unit, visited Masuma’s home in Dakshin Koralia Mollarhat village under Boro Manika Union of Borhanuddin Upazila.
On behalf of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, they paid tribute at her gravesite.
Following the wreath-laying, prayers were offered for the departed soul, and heartfelt condolences were extended to the grieving family.
Masuma’s husband Md. Selim, their son Abdullah, Officer-in-Charge of Borhanuddin Police Station Md. Siddiqur Rahman, local dignitaries, and community members, were also present.
After the tribute, the Air Force hosted lunch for Masuma’s family.
Expressing his appreciation for the Air Force's support, Masuma's husband Md. Selim said, "We are grateful for their visit and the respect shown to my wife. I hope the Air Force will continue to stand by us in the future."
Wing Commander Sarwar Jahan assured the family of continued support. “We share in the family’s grief and offer our deepest condolences. Masuma's bravery will not be forgotten. Several injured individuals have already recovered, and we are committed to assisting Masuma’s family in every way. A full and proper investigation into the incident will be conducted,” he added.
Masuma Begum was laid to rest on Sunday in her family graveyard in Mollarhat village of the same union.
She had worked as a support staff member (aya) at Milestone School and College in Dhaka, where she lived with her family in a rented home.
On the day of the incident, she was on duty near the classroom destroyed by the crash.
In a heroic act, Masuma saved 6–7 students before suffering severe burns.
She later succumbed to her injuries on July 26 while receiving treatment at a hospital.
