A mother, who was also a school teacher, allegedly committed suicide by jumping near a running train in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur on Wednesday after being deeply distressed by her son's poor HSC examination results.
The deceased was identified as Runa Laila, 45, an assistant teacher at Syedpur Al-Faruk Academy in Nilphamari district.
According to locals, the woman jumped near an oncoming train travelling from Syedpur to the neighbouring Parbatipur upazila, dying instantly on the tracks.
Witnesses and locals said the mother fell into severe mental trauma soon after her son's unsatisfactory HSC examination results were published, which primarily drove her to take her own life.
Officer-in-Charge Jillur Rahman of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station, said police had been informed about the incident and necessary steps would be taken.
