A man was killed as his motorbike skipped on the Hanif Flyover in Jatrabari on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Md Rakib Hasan (32), son of Md. Ruhul Amin, a garment trader of Dhalpur area. He was residing with his mother Mumtaz Begum Sathi at a rented house next to Matuail Hospital.
The accident occurred in front of Ideal School and College around 2:15 pm on Saturday.
He was rescued in a critical condition and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the doctor on duty declared him dead at 4 pm.
Sub-Inspector Noor Mohammad of Jatrabari police station confirmed the death, saying that the dead body has been kept in the hospital's morgue for autopsy.
It is yet to be ascertained whether the motorcycle hit another vehicle or lost control on its own. It will be investigated, the police officer said.
Being informed, Rakib's mother Mumtaz Begum Sathi along with cousin Shobha Akter rushed to the hospital after hearing the news.
The disconsolate mother said that she spoke to her son at noon. "He was saying mother, I am now in Karwan Bazar, coming home. I was waiting. Later I got the news that he had met with an accident. I came to DMCH and found him dead," she said.
Rakibul was their only child, she added.
Raju Sheikh, one of Rakib's close friends, said that when he fell from the motorcycle on the flyover, a vehicle ran over his head.
