Satkhira-4 constituency lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam on Sunday submitted a bail bond to a court in Dhaka in connection with an attempted murder case.
The bail bond was submitted to the court of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Junaid.
His personal driver Obaidur Rahman filed the case with Pallabi Police Station on July 21.
Gazi Nazrul had earlier secured an eight-week anticipatory bail from the High Court on August 10 in the case.
According to the case statement, Obaidur lived at his sister's flat at Rose Garden Tower in the Kalshi area of Pallabi and worked as Gazi Nazrul's personal driver.
The complaint alleges that Gazi Nazrul developed a relationship with Obaidur's niece and that Obaidur later asked him to end the relationship.
It further alleges that Nazrul threatened Obaidur after he informed his family about the matter.
The complaint also alleges that recently a group from Moghbazar obtained some 'compromising videos' of Nazrul Islam and the woman and began blackmailing Nazrul.
Nazrul Islam suspected that Obaidur had secretly recorded the videos and supplied them to the media and the blackmailers.
According to the complaint, Aminur Rahman, Masum Billah, Motassim Billah and Rakibul Hasan attacked Obaidur on July 14 on Nazrul's instructions regarding this dispute.
It alleges that Aminur lured Obaidur into a drawing room around 11 am on July 14, where the others allegedly beat him with sticks. Aminur also allegedly pinned him to the floor and tried to strangle him.
The complaint says Obaidur's mother Tahmina and younger sister Mim rushed to the room after hearing screams, prompting the attackers to flee. They allegedly threatened to kill him before leaving.
Obaidur later received treatment at Kurmitola Hospital, according to the case statement.
