A murder accused was allegedly snatched from police by a group of people following an attack in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place at Saydabad Gerry Ghat in the char area of Sreenagar union.
The accused is Selim Mia, 45, son of late Tayeb Uddin of Saydabad village.
According to locals, Selim has three cases against him, including allegations of murder, arson, extortion, robbery and assault.
Police arrested him during a drive at the village on Wednesday afternoon and were taking him to the police station.
However, at Saydabad Ferry Ghat, a group of people allegedly attacked police with bricks before snatching Selim from the custody.
Several police personnel were injured during the incident, witnesses said.
Dr Nusrat Jahan Nipa, assistant surgeon at Raipura Upazila Health Complex, said police member Abdul Alim came to the hospital in the afternoon for treatment.
Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station Md Mujibur Rahman said Selim faces arrest warrants in three cases.
He said when police went to arrest him at Saydabad, local people gathered at the scene and the accused managed to flee amid the crowd.
The OC, however, denied reports that any police personnel were injured during the incident.
