Narayanganj was once a place dominated by various types of godfathers, making it difficult to get justice, Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul said on Wednesday.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the “e-Bail Bond: Ease of Access to Justice” programme at the Narayanganj Circuit House, aimed at transforming the district into a center of justice, free from the influence of torture and godfathers.
“We want to see Narayanganj as a place free from torture,” said Dr. Nazrul. “The e-Bail Bond system has been launched here to move from a legacy of oppression to one of justice.”
He said the government's legal reforms are focused on ensuring justice, reducing the suffering of litigants, and cutting legal expenses.
Dr. Nazrul also mentioned plans to digitize testimonies from key government officials—such as doctors, magistrates, and police—to accelerate the judicial process.
Referring to prolonged case delays in the High Court, he said, “Often, trials are completed in lower courts, but cases linger in the High Court for years. We are working to eliminate this harassment.”
Among others, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Motahar Hossain, Law Ministry Secretary Liaquat Ali Mollah, Attorney General Asaduzzaman, Narayanganj DC Md. Zahidul Islam Miah, SP Mohammad Jasim Uddin, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Abul Fazal Md. Mashiur Rahman, were present.
