All preparations have already been completed at the National Eidgah ground for Eid prayers, LGRD State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said on Wednesday.
He said President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Chief Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, cabinet members, political leaders, diplomats, social dignitaries, and lakhs of devotees will offer Eid prayers at the ground tomorrow (Thursday).
“Tight security measures have been taken around the National Eidgah in this regard,” he said after inspecting the preparations on Wednesday.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Abdus Salam and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed were also present.
He said the Eid congregation for the holy Eid-ul-Azha will be held at the National Eidgah Maidan at 7:30 am.
“A total of 35,000 worshippers, including men and women, will be able to offer prayers at the Eidgah Maidan. Separate ablution and prayer facilities have been arranged for women. I would like to request the people of Dhaka city who wish to offer prayers at the National Eidgah Maidan to enter the venue well in advance for security reasons.”
The state minister also extended Eid greetings to the people of Dhaka and the rest of the country.
A pandal has been erected throughout the Eidgah for the congregation. Ceiling fans, lights, and microphones have been installed, while mats and carpets have been laid across the ground.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has made all necessary preparations to ensure that prayers are not disrupted even if it rains, said DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam.
“We hope that Allah will help us. As you have seen, rain will not cause any damage inside. Even if it rains, we will still be able to offer prayers here. So, there will be no problem,” he said.
“If the weather turns terrible and storms flood the area, then we will announce an alternative arrangement tomorrow morning. We do not want to say anything about that at the moment.”
A separate gate has been designated for VVIPs through the Supreme Court entrance, with a special entry arrangement in place.
There will be four main entrances to the Eidgah, while three additional gates on the northern side will remain open for exiting after the congregation.
In addition, a separate entrance has been arranged for women, along with dedicated prayer and ablution facilities at the National Eidgah.
