The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has introduced a new system allowing VAT-registered manufacturing companies to file their VAT returns directly from their own ERP software with a single click, through integration with the iVAS (Integrated VAT Administration System).

Previously, manufacturing firms could not submit VAT returns directly from their ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning, that many offices use)systems.

They had to prepare returns in their own software and then manually input all the data again into the iVAS platform, which was time-consuming and reduced system efficiency.

In a major step towards automation and simplification, the NBR has initially enabled two companies to complete the full VAT return process from their own ERP systems.

These companies are Seven Rings Cement under the jurisdiction of the Large Taxpayers Unit (VAT), and Siam Bangla Cement under the Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (East).

By integrating the taxpayers’ ERP software with the NBR’s iVAS system, companies can now submit their VAT returns automatically and instantly, without needing to re-enter information manually.

The NBR said that the VAT law has also been updated to incorporate necessary provisions for this system automation.

This move is expected to significantly reduce the compliance burden on businesses by saving time and labour and ensuring faster submission of returns, the NBR claimed through a press release.

It will also reduce the system overload during the VAT return filing period (typically between the 10th and 15th of each month), improving overall performance and user experience.

The NBR has developed this technical solution using its in-house resources, reflecting its commitment to digital transformation and service delivery efficiency.

If this pilot implementation proves successful, the initiative will be scaled up and extended to other VAT-registered entities across the country.

Direct submission of returns from VAT software or ERP systems is expected to enhance transparency, ensure better accountability, and cut down compliance costs for businesses, marking a milestone in the modernization of Bangladesh’s tax administration.
