Dhaka South City Corporation ( DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam said there is no alternative to ensuring full use of bus terminals to restore discipline on city roads.
"Sayedabad would be transformed into a modern and user-friendly terminal by ensuring facilities for transport owners and workers, and sought cooperation from all stakeholders," he said.
He said this at a meeting on the Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal held at Nagar Bhaban.

DSCC also undertaken the initiative to modernise the Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal in line with its original design to restore discipline in Dhaka’s public transport system and ease traffic congestion.
Under the initiative, all unauthorised roadside ticket counters will be removed and buses will be required to operate from inside the terminal premises.
The meeting was chaired by DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam and attended as special guest by lawmaker of Pabna-5 constituency and transport leader Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.
The key decisions taken at the meeting are- reallocation of counters, eviction of illegal establishments, infrastructure development and passenger service enhancemen.
The 110 ticket counters in six blocks inside the terminal will be redistributed on a fair basis while Transport owners’ associations will assist DSCC and traffic police in the process.
All unauthorised counters outside or around the terminal, along with illegal shops inside the terminal, will be removed swiftly while
Boundary walls will be constructed in unnecessary open spaces to ensure buses use the flyover route in accordance with the terminal’s original design. Drainage facilities will also be improved to eliminate waterlogging, while abandoned bus wreckages will be removed.
Alongside, a modern breastfeeding centre, spacious waiting lounges, clean toilets, police outpost and neon signboards will be installed to improve passenger convenience and security.
Lawmaker Advocate Shimul Biswas said operating buses from inside the terminal would enhance passenger safety and help curb the tendency of charging extra fares during Eid and other peak travel seasons.
He said the government, transport owners and workers aim to ensure better passenger services through coordinated efforts.
Senior DSCC officials and representatives of transport owners’ and workers’ federations were present at the meeting.
