The minister came up with the remarks while distributing vegetables seeds and reaper machines among farmers in Rangunia of Chattogram in the morning.
"Economic activities of the world have been halted due to coronavirus outbreak which could lead to food scarcity, but Bangladesh has fertile land. To increase production, not a single piece of plot should be left untilled,” the minister said.
Production should be increased so that the country can ensure food safety and also help others if necessary, he said.
The government has been distributing fertilisers, seeds and pesticides among farmers as subsidy in this regard, Mahmud said.
“We must encourage each other so that no one keeps their land unproductive," he insisted.
