Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam on Monday said there is no major challenge likely to disrupt security during the upcoming Eid travel, but authorities have been instructed to remain alert to ensure quality services for passengers.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists during a visit to the Sadarghat Launch Terminal in the capital.
The minister said all preparations have been taken to ensure safe and smooth river journeys for homebound people ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
Rabiul Alam currently holds responsibility for the Ministry of Shipping as well as the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Ministry of Railways.
During the visit, he inspected different gates of the terminal, passenger service centres and other facilities, and spoke with travellers preparing to return home for Eid.
State Minister Rajib Ahsan, MP Habibur Rashid, Shipping Secretary Nurunnahar Chowdhury and other officials were present during the visit.
“We want passengers to receive proper services during the Eid journey. Our goal is to ensure they can travel home safely and comfortably. All preparations have been taken to achieve that,” the minister said.
After the inspection, he distributed relief materials among workers at the terminal and urged them to assist passengers during the Eid rush.
He said the country is progressing due to the contribution of workers and asked them to behave responsibly and humanely so that passengers do not face any harassment.
