Police on Saturday said vagrants, beggars and drug addicts would not be allowed to stay in the airport area under any circumstances.
According to a statement signed by Niaz Mehdi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media and Public Relations), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), regular police patrols are being conducted in and around Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to remove such people from the area in a bid to reduce the harassment of expatriate passengers.

As part of the drive, police launched an operation at around 5:00 am, covering Airport Circle, the BRTA station, Airport Railway Station, areas around the police box, the airport entrance, the VVIP and VIP roads, and other nearby locations.
During the operation, police detained 82 people, including vagrants, beggars and drug addicts.
Of them, 58 were drug-addicted street children, while the remaining 24 were detained on allegations of involvement in various offences.
Police said necessary measures have been taken for the detained children through a designated Child Affairs Police Officer in accordance with the Children Act, 2013.
