Fuel for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will arrive in the country in September next, said visiting Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation ‘Rosatom’ Director General Alexey Likhachev on Monday.
The Rosatom DG said this while paying a country call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the latter's official residence Ganabhaban.
PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

“The work of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) has progressed overcoming hundreds of obstacles and nuclear fuel for this plant will arrive in Bangladesh in September,” Alexey Likhachev was quoted as saying.
During the meeting, the Rosatom Director General apprised the prime minister of the overall progress of RNPP.

They also talked about the opening celebration of the RNPP.
The prime minister thanked all the concerned for advancing the work of RNPP despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the global crisis.
She also expressed her gratitude to Russia for providing technology and financial assistance.
Recalling Russia's support and assistance in the great Liberation War and in the reconstruction of Bangladesh after the war, Sheikh Hasina hoped that Russian cooperation will continue in the future.

Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman, PM’s Ambassador-at-large Mohammad Ziauddin, her Principal Secretary M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Senior Secretary of Science and Technology Ministry Ziaul Hasan, PM’s Special Assistant Dr. Shaheed Hossain and Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Aleksandr Mantytsky were present.
