Old and unfit buses are being given a fresh coat of paint and undergoing external repairs to make them look ready for the roads again.
Various workshops along the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Matuail Madrasa Bazar area of the capital were seen repainting and carrying out exterior renovation work on ageing buses and trucks.
While the buses receive a cosmetic makeover, concerns remain over road safety if critical components such as engines and other essential mechanical parts are not properly repaired or replaced.
Merely refurbishing the exterior cannot eliminate the risk of accidents caused by mechanically unfit vehicles.
