A dispute over a motorcycle horn and giving way on the road has turned deadly in Jhenaidah's Harinakunda upazila, leaving one man dead and several others injured in a clash between residents of two villages.
The deceased was identified as Delwar Hossain, 45, a resident of Harishpur village.
According to police, an altercation broke out between Laltu of Pakhimara village and Shuvo of Harishpur village over the blowing of a motorcycle horn and allowing passage on the road near a tea stall in the Boroitala Field area of Harishpur village on Thursday evening.
The dispute soon escalated into a scuffle.
As news of the incident spread around, residents of the two villages engaged in a clash after being equipped with locally made weapons.
A chase and counter-chase took place during the melee, leaving several people injured.
The injured included Delwar Hossain, Shuvo and Abu Taleb of Harishpur village.
They were initially taken to Harinakunda Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Kushtia General Hospital for advanced treatment.
Delwar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital early Friday.
Officer-in-Charge of Harinakunda Police Station Asit Kumar said the clash occurred over a dispute related to a motorcycle horn.
He said additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to fend off further trouble.
