A pedestrian was injured in an explosion while a suspected bomb was being defused beneath the Motijheel Metro Rail Station in the capital on Friday night.
The accident occured at around 8.00 pm
The injured, Miraj Ahmed, 23, an employee of the Ministry of Education, was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 8:30 pm.
Miraj hails from Beradakuri area of Gopalpur upazila in Tangail and currently lives in Arambagh of Motijheel.
His friend, Shamsul Haque, said they were returning home after shopping at Capital Market when the explosion occurred beneath the Motijheel Metro Rail Station.
He claimed the blast took place while a cocktail-like object was being defused, leaving Miraj with injuries to his left eye.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said Miraj was brought to the hospital with an injury to his left eye and was later shifted to the eye hospital after initial treatment.
The matter has been reported to the police station concerned, he added.
