Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday strongly denounced the attack on the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner attended by US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and other top officials and business leaders.
“Strongly condemning the cowardly act of violence at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. Relieved to learn that the @POTUS (the US President), the First Lady and others are unharmed. We stand firmly against all forms of violence,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
The incident took place on Saturday when a man armed with guns and knives stormed the lobby of the Washington Hilton, where the annual dinner was being held.
According to reports, the man charged towards the ballroom, triggering panic among guests as Secret Service agents moved swiftly to restrain him.
Several attendees reportedly took cover under tables after gunshots were heard.
