Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said government officials might have political affiliations during their student life, but such affiliations must not be reflected in their professional careers under any circumstances.
He made the remarks while addressing an introductory and briefing session for newly appointed officers of the 45th BCS (Police) and BCS (Ansar) cadres at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Congratulating the newly appointed officers, the minister said their foremost responsibility in the superior service was to maintain the country's law and order and ensure a conducive environment for the smooth functioning of all activities.
He said administration, development, overall social security and public comfort largely depended on their performance.
Giving strict instructions, Salahuddin said the officers must always maintain discipline, follow service rules and comply with lawful directives from their senior officials throughout their careers.
He said the Police and Ansar services were entirely different from other cadre services, as their members had to work in highly challenging and often conflict-prone environments.
Home Ministry Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury chaired the programme.
Inspector General of Police (In-charge) and Additional IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain and Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud spoke as special guests.
