Darus Salam police arrested Mosharraf Hossain Musha from the capital's Baridhara area early Friday in connection with the murder of Opu Rari.
Musha, the prime absconding accused in the beating death of Opu Rari, faces multiple murder and extortion cases across Savar and Dhaka police stations, including cases over student-people movement killings and the 2025 shooting of a businessman, Ramzan, in Hemayetpur.
Formerly president of the Awami League-backed Transport Workers Federation in Savar, Musha forged ties with BNP leaders following the August 5 political transition and secured the presidency of Ward 7 BNP under Tetuljhora Union.
He and his gang allegedly dominated extortion, land grabbing, and intimidation across Hemayetpur, controlling garment sectors, jhut markets, bus stands, and key highways.
Investigating Officer SI Mostafa Hossain said a court sent Musha to Keraniganj Dhaka Central Jail. Police plan to seek court permission to take him into remand for questioning.
