Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen on Sunday said every project should be Bangladesh-friendly, not contractor-friendly to ensure the standard of the work.
“The needs of the service recipients should be given priority at any level for better work,’ he said at the 172nd public hearing of the ACC organised by the Integrated District Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Rangpur in collaboration with the district administration and the District Corruption Prevention Committee in Nilphamari.
The day long public hearing was held with the theme 'New Dream, New Day, Say Goodbye to Corruption' at the Nilphamari District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
ACC Chairman Abdul Momen was present as the chief guest at the day-long public hearing while ACC commissioner (Investigation) Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi was the special guest of the event.
In his speech as the chief guest, the ACC chairman asked officials to be more sincere in preventing institutional corruption.
ACC director general (Prevention) Md. Akhter Hossain, additional superintendent of Police Mohammad Mohsin presided over the session while deputy commissioner Mohammad Nairuzzaman. The welcome speech was delivered by ACC's Rangpur Divisional Office Director Md. Talebur Rahman.
At the beginning of the programme, tributes were paid to the martyrs of the recent July-August student movement, the language movement of 52 and the great liberation war of 71. After a brief discussion, the public hearing of the complainants began.
A total of 81 complaints were heard against 31 government officials in today's public hearing in Nilphamari. Out of these, 5 complaints listed in the ACC schedule were investigated and 57 complaints were resolved immediately.
In the public hearing, the commission expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the management authority of the 250-bed Nilphamari District Sadar Hospital and decided to investigate and announced the launch of an ACC operation.
In the hearing, service recipients in various government offices presented all the harassment they faced while receiving services to the commission in front of the public hearing, facing the service providers.
Service providers were instructed to quickly resolve many of the complaints raised in the public hearing, taking into account all the issues.
The chairman of the ACC will attend another public hearing at the Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad auditorium tomorrow.
