The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday arrested three leaders and activists of the BNP and its front organisation from the city's various areas on charge of their alleged involvement in sabotage acts in the name of nationwide blockade and shutdown, enforced by main opposition the BNP and its like-minded parties.
The arrestees were identified as Md. Riaz Hossain ,33, joint convener of the Jatiyatabadi Sechhasebak Dal, front organisation of BNP, Shafiqul Islam Sabuj ,28, and Md Ujjal Mia ,43.
Based on secret information, members of RAB-2 battalion arrested Riaz from Allah Karim Bus Stand area of Mohammadpur on Tuesday at around 6:20 pm and Ujjal from Mohammadpur around 20.30 pm in the same day evening, while Sabuj was arrested from Mansurabad housing area around 12:30 pm on Wednesday.

Senior ASP Shihab Karim of the RAB-2 battalion said miscreants led by Riaz created panic among common people vandalising and setting fire to a bus of Shadhin Paribahan on the main road in front of Bachhila Jatri Chhauni on 29 October in the name of nationwide blockade and shutdown called by the BNP and various political parties.
Shafiqul Islam Sabuj was involved in setting fire and vandalising a bus of Baishakhi Paribahan in front of Sher-e-Bnagla Nagar Pangu Hospital on 12 November and Ujjal Mia was involved in setting fire on a bus of Paristhan Paribahan in front of Halima Nibas under Mohammadpur police station on the main road adjacent to the park on October 29, said ASP Shihab.
