BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said many poems and songs of Rabindranath Tagore served as a profound source of courage and endless inspiration during Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
He made the remarks in a message issued marking the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore.
Political situation improved, stability key to investment: Fakhrul
“I pay deep respect to the immortal memory of Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary. I remember him with reverence for his extraordinary contribution in elevating Bangla literature to the stature of world literature,” Fakhrul said.
Describing Tagore as one of the greatest figures in Bangla language and literature, he said the poet established himself at the highest level through his timeless creations as a poet, novelist, short story writer, playwright, essayist, linguist, philosopher, lyricist and composer.
Fakhrul said he firmly believes that the works of Tagore, whom he described as a poet of peace and humanity, will continue to inspire people with love for humanity and the motherland for generations.
He noted that classical and folk culture, along with Western scientific thought and artistic philosophy, deeply influenced Tagore’s writings.
“Rabindranath was not only a poet, but also a remarkable architect of society, politics, philosophy and social harmony,” he said.
According to Fakhrul, Tagore’s literary works carry enduring messages of peace, humanity, nobility and tolerance, which will continue to inspire people across ages and beyond national boundaries.
He said humanism, love for nature and patriotism were among the central themes of Tagore’s writings, which continue to inspire people today.
“His writings not only reflected social consciousness and human compassion, but also encouraged people to protest against injustice and oppression,” he added.
Fakhrul also prayed for eternal peace for the soul of Rabindranath Tagore.
