Maya Rani Saha, a 70-year-old woman in Faridpur, will get her own home built with the help of the district administration, following her recognition as a Birangona.

On Saturday noon, construction work of a house for childless and homeless Maya Rani was inaugurated by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Masum Reza.

Elated Maya Rani thanked him said, “This recognition at my old age has given me more strength to live.”

Helpless, age stricken Maya Rani is a resident of Shobharampur in the extended municipality of Faridur.

During the war 16-year-old Maya Rani was assaulted by Pakistani army and their associates. Yet until now she didn’t receive any recognition.

Recently during a public hearing, Maya Rani Saha talked about her struggles to district administrator Atul Shorkar.

Atul Shorkar later directed the UNO to look into the matter and for sending a report on Maya Rani Saha to the Jatiyo Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka).

Following the process, Ministry of Liberation War affairs has recognized Maya Rani Saha as a Birangona in its Gazette #380.

Later, the district administrator took an initiative to build a semi-concrete house for Maya Rani as she had no decent roof over her head.

UNO Masum Reza said, government will build houses for five recognized Birangonas of Faridpur.

“We have designed Maya Rani’s house earlier than others as she has no place to stay,” he said.
