The recommended assistant teachers, who started an indefinite sit-in at Shahbagh in the capital on Sunday morning, have withdrawn their programme after the government announced their fresh joining schedule.

The teachers called off their protests around 2:30pm following the government's decision setting October 1 as the date for joining and October 4 for posting, they said.

The protesters also thanked the government for accepting their demand, and left the protest venue.

Earlier in the day, candidates recommended for appointment as assistant teachers in government primary schools went on an indefinite protest in front of the National Museum, demanding that the government complete their appointments by August.

The demonstration began around 11:00am under tight police security.

A total of 14,384 candidates were recommended for appointment following the government primary school assistant teacher recruitment examination held on January 9 this year.

However, despite completing the recruitment process, the recommended candidates have yet to receive their appointment letters.

The candidates had earlier demanded that the government issue the appointment notification by July 29, but no such order was issued.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education announced that the recommended candidates would join their respective workplaces on October 29.

However, the ministry issued another notice on Sunday, bringing forward the joining date to October 1.

Protesters said they had already completed all required formalities but were still waiting for their final appointment letters, leaving them in uncertainty.

The recommended candidates had earlier staged a similar demonstration at the same venue on April 26.

At the time, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj assured them that the issue would be resolved.

After receiving no appointment notification by their July 29 deadline, the candidates renewed their protest on Sunday, demanding that their appointments be completed within the current month.
