Relief embezzlement: 100 public representatives suspended so far

A total of 100 public representatives have so far been suspended so alleged irregularities in cash aid and relief distribution among the destitute since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak.
According to a notification Local Government Division (LGD) issued on Wednesday, so far 30 UP chairmen, 64 UP members, a zila parishad member, four municipality councillors and one upazila vice-chairman were suspended.
Meanwhile, the government today suspended 11 public representatives.
LGD issued separate notifications suspending a union parishad (UP) chairman and 10 UP members.
The notification said that Md Alam Miah, chairman of Mohori union parishad of Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria and Farida Begum, UP member of reserved 4,5,6 no wards of Budhal union of Sadar upazila have been suspended for their irregularities in cash aid disbursement.
Besides, Monirul Islam, UP member of 6 no ward MD Abul Kalam, of 8 no ward of Kolardoania union parishad of Nazirpur upazila in Pirojpur district, Kanchan Miah of 5 no ward in 8 no Nohata union parishad of Mohammadpur upazila in Magura, Md Mofizul Islam, of 3 no ward in 4 no Kumargata UP in Muktagachha upazila and Rois Uddin of 8 no ward in Rajibpur union of Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh district, Parvin Akhter of 4,5,6, no reserved wards and Md Lokman of 2 no ward in of Bombu union in Joypurhat Sadar upazila, Ms Muslema Begum, of 7, 8, 9 no reserved wards of Gomostapur union of Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj and Md Iqbal of 4 no ward of 6 no Charking union of Hatia upazila in Noakhali district have been suspended for their irregularities in relief distribution for destitute people.
