Dhaka, Jan 6 (UNB) – Vehicular movements from Airport crossing to Abdullahpur on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway remained suspended for five hours on Sunday as hundreds of garment workers staged demonstrations to press home their various demands including salary hike.
Hundreds of RMG workers of Uttara area took position at Abdullahpur, Azampur and Rajlakkhi areas of Uttara on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at around 9:00 am demanding salary hike and implementation of government announced new wage.
The blockade led to heavy traffic congestion on both sides of the road from Airport to Abdullahpur, said Traffic Inspector Asad of Abdullahpur area.
Traffic movement on the highway resumed around 2:00 pm after the garments workers withdrew their barricade getting assurance from garments owners to meet up their demands, said Deputy Commissioner (Uttara Division) Nabid Kamal Shaibal.
