Savar, Jan 14 (UNB) –Five garment workers were injured in a clash with police as they staged demonstrations here on Monday rejecting the revised wage structure.
Several thousand workers started demonstration on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Narsinghopur area of Ashulia from 9:00am and tried to put up a barricade.
Later, a chase and counter-chase took place between the RMG workers and police.
Several factories were declared shut for today following the agitation.
In the wake of widespread protests by RMG workers for the last few days over the disparity in their new wage structure, the government on Sunday revised their wages.
They are continuing their protests as their basic salary was not raised as per their expectation, said the workers.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Sunday threatened to keep all the factories shut for an indefinite period if the agitating workers do not go back to work by Monday.
