In Habiganj, 10 people were killed and three others injured when a microbus carrying a bridal party crashed into a tree by Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Kandigaon of Nabiganj upazila on Friday morning.
The Sylhet-bound microbus from Narayanganj hit the tree after its driver lost control over the steering around 6:30 am, leaving eight people dead on the spot and five others injured, said Ershadul Haq Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station.
Eight of the deceased were identified as Abbas Uddin, 60, Imon, 26, Rabbi, Mohsin, Razib, Asma, Sumona and her 4-year-old daughter Khadiza.
Sumona and her daughter succumbed to their injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Traffic movement on the busy road remained suspended for few hours following the accident.
In Brahmanbaria, six people were killed and four others injured as a microbus caught fire after a collision with a bus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Rampur Bhati in Bijoynagar upazila in the early hours.
Four of the deceased were identified as Sohan, 20, Sagar, 22, Rifat, 16, and Emon, 14.
Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Biswa Road Highway Police Station, said the Sylhet-bound microbus from Narayanganj caught fire after it collided with the Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Limon Paribahan’ around 3:30am, leaving six microbus passengers dead on the spot and four others injured.
The injured were taken to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex.
In Dhaka, a constable was killed when a truck ran him over on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Ulail in Savar early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Akash Ahmed, 22, son of Abdul Malek of Ashulia. He was posted at Narayanganj District Police Lines.
The accident took place around 2am when the goods-laden truck hit Akash’s motorbike while going to his workplace in Narayanganj, leaving him dead on the spot, said officer-in-charge of Savar Highway Police Station Abdullah Hel Baki.
A case was filed with Savar Model Police Station in this regard.
Police seized the ruck but could not arrest its driver as he managed to flee.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle rider was killed after being hit by a bus in the city’s Shetu Bhaban area around 7:45 pm.
Sub Inspector Abdul Abdul Quayyum of Banani police station, identified the victim as Faisal Ahmed, 28, son of Abul Hossain of Kaukhali upazila in Pirojpur district. He was a student of MBA at Dhaka University.
In Feni, two motorcyclists were killed when a motorbike fell into a ditch beside an under-construction bridge on Sonagazi-Feni regional highway at Satbaria in Sonagazi upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Azizul Haque Shahed, 32, and Mohammad Babul Mia, 28, of Jorarganj area in Chattogram district.
Moin Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Police Station, said the motorbike carrying two people fell into the ditch around 11:30pm, leaving them injured.
Later, they were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared Shahed dead. Babul died on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
The accident took place as there was no warning sign at the construction site, said police.
In Mymensingh, two people were killed and two others injured when a mini-truck crashed into another truck in Meherabari area of Bhaluka upazila on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Razon Robi Das, 45, driver of the mini-truck and son of Manik Robi Das, and his assistant Azim Uddin, 25, son of Abdus Salam.
Al Mahmud Adnan, in-charge of Bhoradona highway police outpost, said the mini-truck crashed into another stationary truck on the road, killing two people on the spot.
The injured were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, he said.
In Cumilla, an unidentified motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a Dhaka-bound vehicle in Jhimlatali area of Daudkandi upazila around 10am on Friday.
The body was kept at Upazila Health Complex, said Shahadat Hossain, sub-inspector of Daudkandi Highway Police Station.
In Panchagarh, a child and a schoolgirl were killed in separate road crashes in Tetulia and Sadar upazilas on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Rajiul Islam, 5, son of Manik Hossain of Prodhangochh area of Bhojonpur union in Sadar upazila, and Moyuri Akter, 16, daughter of Anwarul Islam of Pathanpara area of Debnagar union in Tetulia upazila.
Police and witnesses said Moyuri was going to the district town by a motorbike along with her brother-in-law from her house.
However, on the way she fell from the motorbike when a sand-laden truck hit it.
Later, she was run over by the truck, killing her on the spot.
An easy-bike hit Rajiul Islam while playing in front of his house in Sadar upazila in the afternoon, leaving him injured.
He was taken to hospital where doctors declared him dead.
