Rotary Club of Uttara, a leading voluntary organisation in Bangladesh under Rotary International District 3281, has awarded 22 personalities and institutions in recognition of their remarkable contributions to society in various sectors.
In a colourful event, the club formally recognised the awardees’ role in its 31st Installation and Vocational Excellence Award Ceremony on Friday night at the Uttara Club Limited.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi joined the event from Canada as the chief guest on Zoom platform, said a press release on Saturday.
Rotary’s District Governor Mutasim Billah Faruqui attended the event as a special guest while Shamsul Haque, Additional Foreign Secretary, and Mohammad Manzurul Islam, Editor-in-Chief and CEO of DBC News TV, were the guests of honour.
At the event, Rotary Club of Uttara’s President and journalist Julhas Alam took over to run the club for the Rotary Year 2021-22 ending on June 30 next year. Rtn Julhas introduced his 23-mmeber Board of Directors during the occasion.
The club awarded singer and composer Kumar Bishwajit, folk singer and researcher Tapon Majumder, heritage traveler Eliza Binte Elahi, Kurmitola General Hospital’s Director Brigadier General Jamil Ahmad and the hospital’s Matron Teresa Baroi, Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital’s ICU-in-charge Dr Muhammad Asaduzzaman, actress and model Tanven Sweety, agriculturist Dr Md Khairul Bashar, founder chairman of PFDA Sajida Rahman Danny, international chess organiser Mahmuda Haque Chowdhury Moly, promising film director Rashid Polash, leading IT and software industry figure M Musleh Uz Zaman, photojournalist Abir Abdullah, ESPN cricinfo correspondent Mohammad Isam, CEO and chief patron of Ayat Education Nusrat Feroz Aman, reciter Bhaswar Bandyopadhyay, chaldal.com CEO Zia Ashraf, Managing Director of green factory Snowtex Outerwear Ltd SM Khaled, Maliha Poly Tex Fiber Industry, educationist Jahan Ara Begum, icddr,b scientist Sabrina Rasheed and Bidyanondo Foundation.
Tipu Munshi, also a Rotarian and member of Rotary Club of Uttara, congratulated all the awardees and thanked the club leadership for honouring the great people and institutions for their role, saying their work to enrich society go with the spirit of Rotary.
He also congratulated the new club board, led by Julhas Alam, also Dhaka chief of the New York-based global news agency Associated Press (AP).
Reciters Sharmin Lucky and Shimul Mustapha later joined a cultural event.
