State Minister for Planning Md Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki has called for increased grants, concessional financing, technology transfer and stronger international partnerships to accelerate implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He made the call while delivering Bangladesh’s national statement at the General Debate of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2026 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, according to a press release issued by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN on Tuesday.
The state minister highlighted the government’s Recovery, Restoration and Reconstruction (3R) strategy to restore economic stability and strengthen institutions following the February 2026 election.
He also outlined key national initiatives, including increased public investment in education and health, excavation of 20,000 kilometres of rivers and canals, plantation of 25 crore saplings, expanding renewable energy and green industries, developing a carbon market, strengthening domestic resource mobilisation, introducing a universal life-cycle-based social protection programme and launching the Farmers’ Card to enhance rural livelihoods, food security and agricultural productivity.
Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to sustainable development, Saki said the government is pursuing key reforms and investments to advance inclusive and sustainable development.
He emphasised the need for stronger global partnerships to accelerate implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
