Dhaka, Oct 21 (UNB) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday stayed for four weeks the proceedings of a case filed against BNP leader and former minister Mirza Abbas.

The Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Abbas, former housing and public works minister.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station in 2014 for irregularities in allocating plots.

Advocate Joynul Abedin and Sagir Hossain Lion stood for Mirza Abbas while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC.  

On May 13 last, the High Court dismissed a rule issued earlier over quashing the case proceedings and vacated a status quo, said the ACC lawyer. 

Later, Abbas moved the Appellate Division against the HC order.
