Seven Bangladeshis who died in a fire at a sofa manufacturing factory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, were laid to rest in their respective villages on Saturday.
Of the seven victims, five were from Naogaon and two from Natore.
The victims from Naogaon were identified as Md Shahin, son of Majnu Rahman of Par Naogaon in Sadar upazila; M Hasibul Hasan Shuvo, son of Nazmul Huda of Dubai village in Atrai upazila; Minhaj Pramanik, son of Akkas Pramanik of Madhyaboalia village; Masidul Sardar Sajib, son of Majnu Sardar of Madhabpur village; and Sagar Ali, son of Azhar Ali of Sadhanagar village.
Of the five, three were buried after Asr prayers and the other two after Maghrib prayers.
The other two victims are Mohammad Shamim, son of Jaker Ali of Dighirpar village in Naldanga upazila of Natore, and Md Sabbir Hossain, son of Md Tajani of Khajur village in the same upazila.
Around 3pm, ambulances carrying the bodies reached the homes of Shamim Hossain in Dighirpar village and Sabbir in Sripurpara village, both in Khajura Union of Naldanga upazila.
The namaz-e-janaza of Shamim was held at a local field at 4pm, after which he was buried in the village graveyard.
Juhurul Islam Bhutto, former chairman of Khajura Union, said Sabbir's namaz-e-janaza was held at 5pm before he was buried in the local graveyard.
Earlier in the morning, the bodies arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, more than two and a half months after the tragedy.
The bodies were later handed over to their families after completing formalities with the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
A total of 16 Bangladeshis were killed in the fire that broke out at the factory in Riyadh on August 9. DNA tests were conducted to identify the final seven victims as their bodies had been severely burnt.
Grief gripped the villages as ambulances carrying the bodies arrived. Family members mourned the loss of their loved ones, many of whom had gone abroad as their families' sole breadwinners.
Their deaths have also left their families struggling with debts incurred to send them overseas.
Md Moniruzzaman, Atrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), said each family had been given Tk 35,000 to cover burial expenses. The families would also receive a government grant of Tk 3 lakh each within three months.
Naogaon Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Saiful Islam assured the families of continued administrative support.
